Seek Discipline!

Posted by Tanos on Sun 11 May 08, 11:05 PM

Last week I split the contents of The Slave Register website between www.slaveregister.com and a new site www.seekdiscipline.com . In short, Seek Discipline! ("SD!") gets the web boards, profiles, pictures and networks, and the certificates and listings stay on The Slave Register ("TSR"). I've done this so the site names better reflect what's on them.

First, I've been increasingly convinced that having the boards on a site named after the Slave Register but with an implicit association with Internal Enslavement / TPE ideas is just confusing and/or putting off a lot of people unnecessarily.

Furthermore, the boards weren't meant to be in any way limited to people using Internal Enslavement or Total Power Exchange ideas. There are other ways to build real-life 24/7 D/s relationships with some kind of ownership dynamic (eg giving your word if you're a "word is my bond" sort of person), and much of that is on-topic on the web boards (although not so much on the Enslavement board.)

Even more widely, a whole bunch of non-M/s topics were on-topic on the Captivity and Ritual boards (eg practical 24/7 collars) and I don't think it makes sense to exclude non-M/s people from contributing.

But putting those kinds of boards on a site called www.slaveregister.com both implies they're limited to M/s, and puts some people off if they're uncomfortable with the idea of the Register (eg "someone else giving my slave a number???")

In thinking of a name and concept for the new site for the boards, I partly drew from my current ideas about how Bridgewood will be run (it's a 19 acre woodland I now have, which will be run along D/s lines). Part of the plan is to provide a highly structured D/s environment. It's struck me that D/s of that kind is still real even if only done for a single day (digging trenches, putting up marquees etc under direction), and there's a continuum from that all the way to long-term M/s relationships and that the basic needs, for discipline, purpose, responsible leadership etc are the same. Some of the ideas about retreats and training weekends I came across at the M/s Conference also lean in this direction. These are genuine needs for community and discussion with other D/s-relationship people, who's perspective is different from many/most BDSM people who want to do physical BDSM and roleplay in the context of an essentially vanilla relationship.

The name Seek Discipline! is from one of the chapter opening quotes in Frank Herbert's "Chapterhouse Dune", since it neatly ties together several of these ideas: "Seek freedom and become captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty." It's also a signoff-line I used on IRC for several years.

To start with, both sites are heavily interlinked and retain the old TSR red, white, and black colour-scheme. In particular, the SD! profile settings are used to fill out the Slave Register certificates that appear on TSR.
