Ownership and M/s Books

The Slave Register publishes this list of non-fiction Ownership and Master/slave books, sorted according to Amazon.com sales, with accompanying comments by Amazon's users. For a general BDSM bestseller list, please see The BDSM Book List which includes books on physical techniques and some M/s fiction.

1. Protocols: Handbook for the Female Slave (M/S Studies Books) by Robert J. Rubel

To my knowledge, there is no other book out there like this one. After a healthy orientation to the world of Leather, the book divides into two main parts: how the slave is to behave in public Leather events and how the slave is to prepare the evening for a formal High Leather Protocol dinner. It is written in the first person, directly guiding the slave through these activities. I found this book interesting because often, particularly in new Master/slave relations, the slave is unsure what to do to serve the Master and the Master is unsure how he wants to be served. This ...

2. Erotic Slavehood: A Miss Abernathy Omnibus by Christina Abernathy

While the some of the material is dated the overall product is worth the money. I got a lot out of the training and will use the lessons in training future subs. The Masters advice given is outstanding and all Dominants should take it to heart.

3. The Master's Manual: Handbook of Erotic Dominance by Jack Rinella

I am a hetero dom and, contrary to someone's earlier homophobic review, I found this book to be of great interest and extremely relevant. The need to understand dominance and submission trancends gender and orientation. The book is thoughtfully written and well edited. There are many complex philosophical issues within the leather experience that I have tangled with myself and the author addresses those issues with care, attention and the insight of one who has resolved his own internal conflicts. Jack, you done good. Thanks for your work and your willingness to share your experience. ...

4. Master/Slave Relations: Handbook of Theory and Practice (M/S Studies Books) by Robert J. Rubel

In the latest book to discuss the dynamics of Master/slave relationships, we have "Master/slave Relations: A Handbook of Theory and Practice" by Robert J. Rubel, PhD. Like similar books by Christina Abernathy, Guy Baldwin, Jack Rinella or Jay Wiseman (who contributes this book's foreword), it sets out to explore the Master/slave dynamic. Building like a pyramid through various phases of mastery (and this is primarily a book directed to dominants), Dr. Rubel power-points his way through the book's near 200 pages. Where Dr. Rubel excels here is in the details. He has a background as ...

5. The Compleat Slave: Creating and Living an Erotic Dominant/Submissive Lifestyle [Complete]: Creating and Living an Erotic Dominant/Submissive Lifestyle by Jack Rinella

From the back cover of the book: "Whether you are a novice D/s player or an experienced Master or slave, this insightful and forthright volume will prove to be a great read and a valuable reference guide." NOT.This was a disappointing read, given that it purports to be about creating and living an erotic dominant/submissive lifestyle. It is certainly about how Rinella does/did it, but as he points out again and again throughout the book, all relationships are different, as are the people in them. Anyone who's already started down the path to making their own D/s relationship work won't ...

6. The Control Book by Peter Masters

As a prodomme and psychotherapist I am impressed by this book. It is quite good in the use of Jungian archetypes and how they are seen in domination and submissive choices. This book is not light. If you truly want the deep down reasons why people are or choose to be submissive or dominant this gives some intense answers. I liked it.

7. Slavecraft: Roadmaps for Erotic Servitude by Guy Baldwin

If you're looking for a how-to book, this ain't it! However, if you're looking for a book to contribute to and strengthen your own foundation for slaving, you'll be turning the right pages here. I found this book to be very helpful, surprisingly from both the Master and slave perspectives. (I'm a switch, have a slave (of two years) and am now looking to practice deep submission with a particular Sir.) This book gives a good foundation for BEING slave, rather than DOING slave, and it is my belief that effective and natural DOING must be preceeded by strong and confident BEING. It's ...

8. Becoming a Slave: The Theory and Practice of Voluntary Servitude by Jack Rinella

I have lived with my 24/7 slave for over 6 years. Jack Rinella, the author of this book, has had the same slave for over 9 years. This book is a realistic and yet affirmingly individualistic guide to turning the Ds fantasy of consensual slavery into an every day reality. With several vignettes based on his own experiences, as well as those from many successful 24/7 couples and familys, and the reflections of Rinella's slave, this book offers honest insight into how some people have turned their fantasies into their lives. This isn't romantic, it isn't fetishy, and it isn't easy. If you ...

9. Miss Abernathy's Concise Slave Training Manual by Christina Abernathy

Just as the title suggests, this book is a concise guide on techniques and setting in which to train a slave. Once you have read and practiced the techniques in books such as SM 101 and Screw the Roses, this book is a fantastic collection of ideas for you to set up and negotiate your own S&M relationship. Written in two parts, first the book deals with the various techniques of training your slave - interviews, journals, forms of address, postures, commands, types of services and ornamentation. The book then deals with D/S relationships - what to look for in slaves/Masters, the ethical ...

10. Manual Creation: Defining the Structure of an M/S Household by Machele Kindle

In 8 chapters, Machele Kindle, otherwise known as Master Fire, lays out her reasoning and purpose behind her own M/s household's structure. Her approach is purposeful, meant to help her readers consider what they want and how to get it while being grounded in reality. Each section includes three parts: first her reasoning behind each set of expectations, second a set of questions for both wouldbe masters and wouldbe slaves to consider, and finally a copy of the relevant section of her own manual. A good look into one master's mind that does not fall into the common trap of thinking hers is ...

11. Protocol Handbook for the Leather Slave: Theory and Practice by Robert J. Rubel

As a companion book to "Master/slave Relations: A Handbook of Theory and Practice," Dr. Robert Rubel has a tougher time negotiating the world of submissives. As in his "Master/slave Relations" book, "Protocol Handbook for the Leather Slave: Theory and Practice," covers the basics thoroughly. In his astute introduction, Dr. Rubel makes the distinction between Leather and Not-Leather when it comes to BDSM and the D/s lifestyle, which is a truly useful reminder of what separates lifestylers from weekend warriors. The first couple of chapters go a long way toward establishing plenty of essential ...

12. To Love, to Obey, to Serve by V. M Johnson

... but it is brutally real. If you are looking for fantasy fodder, look elsewhere. This is reality, raw and unpolished. Vi is one of the Mothers of the modern BDSM scene. She put her life out there so that others could learn from her mistakes. Anyone who ever thought it would be a good idea to sign their life completely over to someone should be made to read this book before they continue along that path. As the saying goes - Be careful what you wish for. This book is an emotional roller coaster. When Mother Vi writes about her mother I was moved to tears. I felt angry for her ...

13. Training with Miss Abernathy: A Workbook for Erotic Slaves and Their Owners by Christina Abernathy

Dominant/submissive relationships are so often misunderstood and sensationalized that it's a great pleasure to find an author with such a deep, intuitive understanding of the subject. Miss Abernathy takes the novice (or even the more advanced) submissive through each step of training--from figuring out what kind of slave you want to be, to the details of acting as an escort, butler, lady's maid, or sex slave. Throughout the book, she emphasizes that 24-7 slavehood is a vocation, not just a sexy hobby (although it can be that, too).Miss Abernathy will give you everything you need to ...

14. The Path of Service: Guideposts for Excellence (S/M Tech Educational) by Christina Parker

The description of this book is fairly short and imprecise. Since I expected a LOT more from the author (who wouldn't, with such fanfare the book description gave her), I was disappointed. So I think anyone considering purchasing this book should get a fair account of what's in it. First of all, do not let it escape your attention that this is a book YOU write. The author has given a prompt or assignment at the top of each page, and you fill out the lines beneath. If you are seeking to learn about the lifestyle, this book should not be your first choice. If you are seeking to ...

15. Master Nage's Guide to Training Consensual Slaves by Master Nage

I purchased this book hoping to find information and "how to" training a potential submissive. I was looking for tips and hopefull a new approach on guiding someone to serve. Instead this book is another BDSM 101. Each chapter explores an aspect of the alternative world... What is the meaning of BDSM, what is a training collar, what is a Gorean relationship..... I feel the title is misleading and the book is another book geared toward people who are new or curious about the lifestlye. It doesn't bring anything new for people who have already started their exploration.
